Pop-up art installations incorporate art into existing town programs and events. The first pop-up installation occurred during the 5th Annual Yucca Valley Film Festival, giving artists a chance to showcase their design over the three-day signature event.

Selected Artist

Kristen Wheatley is a local emerging artist based in Joshua Tree who works for a local art non-profit. Her work builds upon existing, left-behind and repurposed materials such as stumps, sidewalks and the sky. Kristen uses movement, mechanisms and structure to fabricate interactive pieces that respond to the touch of users’ naturally occurring movement and collaboration.

Artwork: "Count the Ways"

Count the Ways was fabricated out of aluminum, utilizing the wind’s embedded energy to create an experience that encourages viewers to decipher the messages and consider their own movements. The piece uses symbols as a language that resonates with those willing to play along and activate the work.
